Jordan Morris named 2019 MLS Comeback Player of the Year

SEATTLE — Sounders FC forward Jordan Morris has been named the 2019 MLS Comeback Player of the Year, Major League Soccer announced Tuesday.

Morris finished the regular season with 10 goals and a career-high seven assists.

The Mercer Island native missed all of 2018 after suffering a torn ACL in a CONCACAF Champions League match against Santa Tecla FC in El Salvador.

"It's an honor to win this award and I want to thank everyone who helped me get back on the field this year and who supported me during my recovery last year," said Morris. "I'm so grateful to be back out there doing what I love."

Morris is the third Sounders FC player to win the award. Eddie Johnson won in 2012 and Clint Dempsey won in 2017.

LAFC's Mark-Anthony Kaye and the Philadelphia Union's Kacper Przybylko finished behind Morris in the voting.

Morris also recorded a hat trick in the Sounders 4-3 playoff victory over FC Dallas on Saturday.

The Sounders next face Real Salt Lake at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Morris was named MLS rookie of the year in 2016 after scoring 14 goals and recording five assists in 44 appearances for the Sounders.
