KENMORE, Wash. — Kenmore Middle School closed Monday out of “an abundance of caution” after rumors surfaced over the weekend about guns at the school.
Sgt. Ryan Abbott, a spokesman for the King County Sheriff’s Office, said that one student brought ammunition to school Friday and passed it out to five other students. All six students were suspended.
Deputies said rumors circulated Monday that weapons were on campus.
The rumors were not substantiated but a bomb K-9 was brought in to search the campus for firearms, deputies said.
The closure of Kenmore Middle School comes less than a week after Shorecrest High School closed for a day following a possible threat.
On Dec. 9, the high school was placed on lockdown for about three hours after students brought ammunition to the school, according to deputies.
Classes were canceled at Shorecrest High School on Wednesday after Shoreline Public Schools officials said they received reports about a potential shooting threat related to the lockdown.
