KENT, Wash. — A Kent man is dead after his car crossed into oncoming traffic, crashed into two cars and caught fire in Kent.

Around 8 p.m. on Friday, police answered multiple calls about a car crash near the intersection of Southeast Kent-Kangley Road and 124th Avenue Southeast in Kent.

Witnesses told police that bystanders pulled a man out of a burning car and began to first aid.

Kent Police and Puget Sound Fire crews arrived just as bystanders were placing AED pads on 66-year-old Ricky Ballard.

Fire crews said the car was still on fire when they arrived.

Crews immediately took over first aid but ultimately pronounced Ballard of Kent dead at the scene.

Police said Ballard was driving east in a blue Mustang when he crossed into oncoming traffic near 124th Avenue Southeast, struck a curb and hit two cars going westbound.

One of the drivers hit was injured and treated at the scene. The driver in the third car was not injured according to police.

During the investigation, police determined that Ballard was at fault.

Police continued their investigation but said that there were initial indications that alcohol was a factor.
