Kent, Wash. — A family in Kent is heartbroken after they say someone broke into their elderly mother’s home Saturday night, taking off with a small fortune. Now, they want to warn their community about the experience. They’re also hoping anyone with information will contact the Kent Police Department.
Harvinder Kaur and her daughters say whoever broke in Saturday night didn’t just break her windows—they shattered her sense of security.
“I didn’t sleep all night. I worked so hard,” Kaur said.
Worked hard, her family explained, for everything that was stolen. They showed KIRO 7 surveillance video they say their mom’s cameras took Saturday evening. They say the person in the video took hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of valuables from her home, including expensive jewelry and antiques—a big chunk of her life’s savings.
“He walked out the front door with the safe,” her daughter Ruby Basi said. “I’m just shocked he took so much so fast.”
They say whatever valuables remain will now be stored at a bank instead of her house, but now the whole family is scared for their mom’s safety.
“What bothers me the most is what if someone hurt her? And we came home to a mom who didn’t exist anymore?” Ripsy Nagra said.
We reached out to Kent police several times for information. We will update this story when they respond.
