Kent police search for 17-year-old in Kentridge High School shooting

Kent Police are investigating an assault involving a gun that occurred at Kentridge High School on Monday night, according to a police statement.

At approximately 7:40 p.m., Kent officers responded to the school, located at 12430 Southeast 208th Street, following a report of an illegal discharge outside of the building.

A 911 caller reported observing people running in the parking lot as they left the area.

Multiple officers responded to the scene and attempted to interview witnesses, but those in the area denied hearing or seeing anything of concern.

However, at 8:09 p.m., Kentridge school security contacted 911 to report they had located surveillance video of the incident.

The victim, a current Kentridge student, was not injured and ran away.

School security identified the shooter as a 17-year-old male and former Kentridge student, who also ran away before police arrived.

Kent Police Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault and are working to find the 17-year-old.

The department, including School Resource Officers, are working together to provide extra patrols and presence at the high school.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information regarding the suspect’s location to contact them.
