The King County Council unanimously approved an emergency $600,000 on Wednesday for safety improvements at the downtown Seattle courthouse.
This comes after a series of assaults and other security incidents outside the courthouse in recent months, as reported by KIRO 7.
The money will allow for more deputies posted at entrances, staff at metal detectors and more mental health counselors in the area.
With the new funding, King County Superior Court Judge Jim Rogers said the Third Avenue entrance may open as early as this week.
