A Kitsap woman allegedly tried to evade the Washington State Patrol in a high-speed chase on Saturday.
According to court documents, an officer was traveling northbound on State Route 3 near Chico Way, approaching a construction zone, and saw a maroon sedan behind him driving fast. The officer recorded the speed at 85 mph going on 90 mph as they passed him.
The sedan kept accelerating and was nearing 100 mph in the posted 45mph construction zone. The officer turned on his emergency lights to stop the sedan and the car kept accelerating in an attempt to escape. Due to the state pursuit laws, the officer deactivated his lights and notified Communications.
The WSP Aircraft Smokey 3 happened to be overhead and started tracking the car. The officer backed off and recorded the car going 127 mph before leaving his radar. Smokey 3 followed the car northbound on SR 3 and said it was going fast and passing on the shoulder. The car exited onto Kitsap Mall Boulevard and stopped in a parking lot but before being able to make contact it drove away.
Smokey 3 kept following the car to Chico Way and onto Erlands Point Road as it tried to hide again. When approached, the car took off and was tracked to Marine Drive. Smokey saw the driver run on foot into a wooded area and described the driver as a white woman with blonde hair, wearing all black.
The woman, Jessica Mae Beach, 35 of Bremerton, was found and transported to Kitsap County Jail. She faces charges of attempting to elude.
According to court documents, Beach told officers she did not stop because she was scared. She then said, “What about the no chase law?”
An officer told Beach that no one was chasing her, but Smokey 3 had been following her since the stop.
