KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — Two people are dead, and six others are feared to have died after two planes collided Sunday over Lake Coeur d’Alene, officials with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said.
Witnesses told authorities that two planes collided and fell into the lake.
In initial reports, there were a total of eight passengers and crew on the planes, but officials said they’re still trying to verify that information.
Search and rescue crews continued their search for those on board after pulling two bodies out of the water. Authorities said they believed no one had survived.
Officials said the planes, a Cessna TU206G and a de Havilland DHC-2, were in 127 feet of water.
Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board said they are investigating the crash.
