Lake Stevens neighbors call 911 after hearing explosions, seeing duplex on fire

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. — Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue credit calls from concerned neighbors for helping quickly put out a duplex fire in Lake Stevens.

Just after 12:30 p.m. Monday, a series of calls came in from people saying they heard explosions and saw fire coming from the side of a building on 99th Avenue Northeast.

When crews arrived, they learned the fire was centered around an attached garage of one of the units.

Firefighters say the flames shot upward, burning through a powerline, causing it to fall to the ground.

The fire then spread into the eaves of the roof and the attic.

Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the fire and crews were able to put out the flames within about 20 minutes.

The cause is under investigation.
