WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Firefighters in Whatcom County are still fighting to get a fire near Mosquito Lake Road and the Middle Fork area under control.
Fire officials with the South Whatcom Fire Authority said residents in the area first reported seeing the fire at about 7 p.m. in an area that appears to have been cleared out.
Helicopters and several crews are expected to join the fight Thursday morning.
Fire officials said about 40 acres had burned as of midnight and said the wildfire danger is very high in Skagit, Whatcom and Snohomish counties.
Officials are asking residents to avoid the area.
