SEATTLE — Leschi Elementary in Seattle was closed for the second day on Wednesday after an odor problem caused the school to be evacuated and closed.
According to a letter from the Leschi principal, the odor was the result of a flooring product being installed in a new addition.
Equipment used by contractors to ventilate the area was accidentally turned off, and the odor dispersed throughout the school.
Extra fans have been brought in to supply more ventilation and a ventilation system is running to bring in outside air four to five times a day.
Due to the sudden evacuation, not all staff and students were able to take their equipment home for virtual learning.
Seattle public schools are checking the air Wednesday before students return to classrooms on Thursday.
The construction project is delaying the final coat of the flooring product until school is not in session.
