The organizer behind the Seattle Center vigil wrote to KIRO 7 News that his home state of Texas held a vigil, and he was inspired to hold a touching tribute as well.
“I searched online to see if anything similar was happening locally and, when I couldn't find anything, I decided to try and put something together myself,” organizer Mark Edwards said. “I have been amazed at the response so far. It's a real testament to Carrie, to see these people coming together with a shared passion.”

As part of the vigil, the Space Needle will light up its beam as part of the tribute.
"In Seattle, there are hundreds who have responded 'attending' to a Lightsaber Vigil at the Fisher Pavilion at Seattle Center," read the news release from the Space Needle. "As part of tonight's widespread Carrie Fisher Lightsaber Vigil, Space Needle will beam a tribute to a galaxy far far way. The Space Needle will light its Legacy Lights between 7-8 p.m."

“Join fellow Star Wars fans this Friday at Seattle Center in a Lightsaber Vigil in honor of Carrie Fisher: our Princess, our General, our Friend,” the post said.
