TACOMA — The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County is asking for help caring for 40 animals with urgent medical issues.
Over a two day period last week, the facility took in 40 animals with serious health problems. That included a 5-year-old pit bill named Libby with a tumor on her shoulder.
Shortly after she was brought in, animal control brought in another 21 animals. That included: two parakeets, five geckos, one bearded dragon, eight snakes, four rabbits, and one kitten.
Less than a day after that, 18 cats taken from a one-bedroom apartment arrived at the shelter “dirty and fearful.”
To help care for these animals, the shelter needs to give them each “individual attention, nutritious food, and medical care.”
“Critical medical care for dogs like Libby and large-scale intakes from animal control is the most expensive aspect of the shelter’s budget, totaling more than $4.5 million each year,” said Ashley Taulbee, chief philanthropy officer at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County. “Every dollar helps make this life-saving work possible.”
The shelter is asking for donations to help these animals, which can be sent in at their website at this link. Petco Love will also be matching those gifts by sending four times each donation as part of the shelter’s Day of Giving event through Aug. 24.
