MUKILTEO, Wash. — A local manufacturing company is stepping up to help hospitals that are in dire need of supplies.
Mukilteo’s Kaas Tailored is known for making furniture and seats for aerospace clients but for the past 72 hours, the company has been sewing hospital material.
Last week, Providence Health in Washington issued a dire call for help. Amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, doctors and nurses were running dangerously low on supplies.
Founder Dan Kaas got in touch with Providence and within minutes, they worked on a plan to switch his manufacturing lines to make face masks.
"I said, 'hey do you need help?'" and about 5 minutes later she texted me saying, 'yeah we want to talk.' And that was Wednesday, and there was a plan put in place by the end of the day,” Kaas said.
Along with masks, the company is also making face shields to help protect doctors during operations.
Kaas estimated nearly 4,000 masks and 800 face shields have been delivered.
