LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Police are investigating arson as the cause of the fire that ripped through a home in Lynnwood Friday which had just been put up for sale the day before.
“Upon investigation, detectives determined the cause of the fire was arson,” said Lynnwood police in a press release.
One neighbor says that they were woken up by a loud “boom” before looking out their window to see the flames.
“I just heard something like boom, and then it kind of just woke me up,” said neighbor Fan Wong.
Wong says that was around 3:30 a.m. when he got up.
“Something going on. I open up my window. Wow, it’s a big fireball on this side,” said Wong.
Wong took out his phone and captured clouds of smoke coming from the home off 191st Place Southwest and 36th Avenue West.
Crews from South County Fire arrived to find flames on the second floor that rose to the roof and burned through.
“When firefighters showed up there were flames coming from the second-floor windows, and shortly after that they went through the roof,” said Leslie Hynes, spokesperson for South County Fire.
No one was inside and the house was completely empty since it went on the market Thursday.
“Oh, that’s probably another story. Oh, that’s pretty bad then,” said Wong.
The fire has since been put out, and investigators were inside looking for what started the flames.
A flier outside the home said it was built in 1947, had fresh paint and flooring, and was listed for $575,000.
Lynnwood police say that the investigation is ongoing and ask if anyone has information regarding this incident that you contact Detective Hammersmith at 425-670-5662.
