CASHMERE, Wash. — There’s good news for fans of a Washington candy classic.
The makers of Aplets & Cotlets say they’re sticking around.
In March, the Liberty Orchards Company in the small town of Cashmere announced it would be closing on June 1 after the owner was unable to sell the business.
But on May 28, the company said on its Facebook page that it was currently negotiating with a prospective buyer and the store would remain open and continue all normal operations until negotiations are concluded.
In the meantime, the candy will still be produced and shipped.
The company was founded in 1920 by two Armenian immigrants, Mark Balaban and Armen Tertsagian, who bought a small apple orchard and used their surplus fruit to make Aplets. Cotlets were introduced a few years later.
