WENATCHEE, Wash. — A driver involved in a hit-and-run crash in Wenatchee was arrested Friday after leading police on a pursuit on U.S. Highway 2, according to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.
At around 2 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and Easy Street.
A black Dodge Dakota fled the scene traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 2.
Multiple 911 callers reported the vehicle driving erratically at speeds over 100 mph.
A deputy spotted the vehicle on westbound U.S. Highway 2 in Dryden and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued to flee, forcing other cars off the road.
Another deputy traveling eastbound from Leavenworth on U.S. Highway 2 observed the suspect vehicle.
After the deputy activated his emergency lights, the suspect went around a vehicle traveling westbound before veering into the eastbound lane and striking the deputy’s vehicle on the driver’s side.
The suspect crashed a short distance away near Prey’s Fruit Barn on U.S. Highway 2.
He then got out of his car and fled on foot, trying to flag down nearby vehicles for a ride.
Deputies eventually caught up with the suspect in the fruit stand parking lot and arrested him at around 2:20 p.m.
The suspect, a 21-year-old Bremerton man, is now under investigation for several felonies, including eluding police, possession of a stolen vehicle, DUI and hit-and-run.
The deputy whose vehicle was struck was checked out at a hospital and released with minor injuries.
The Washington State Patrol will be handling the investigation into the collision between the suspect and the CSCO deputy’s vehicle.
