SULTAN, Wash. — A 31-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a carjacking and kidnapping in Sultan, deputies said.
Deputies responded after 4 p.m. to a report of a carjacking in the 35700 block of Mann Road.
According to investigators, a man grabbed a woman from the driver seat, threw her to the ground and drove away with a 9-year-old girl inside.
The suspect, a 31 YO Sultan man, is in custody after being caught on foot. He stole the vehicle in the 35700 blk of Mann Rd & ditched it in the 31400 blk where he attempted to steal a second vehicle. Deputies said while the suspected carjacker was driving, he slowed down and told the child to get out and forced her out while the car was moving.
The 9-year-old girl was found by a school bus driver who reported seeing the child on the side of the road. She was not hurt and was reunited with her family.

Investigators said the man kept driving recklessly on Mann Road, later ditched the car and tried to steal another car from a nearby home.
When the homeowner went outside, he confronted the man before pulling out a pocket knife, deputies said.
The suspect ran away and deputies took him into custody at about 4:30 p.m.
Investigators said the suspect and victims know each other.
The suspect was taken to Snohomish County Jail and booked for first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, vehicle prowling and reckless endangerment.
