Man arrested in Magnolia after threatening family with a gun

SEATTLE — A man was arrested on Tuesday after threatening two brothers with a gun while they were teaching their mother to drive in Magnolia.

Around 10:45 p.m., Seattle police responded to a call a man with a gun was following a family in a black Chevrolet Suburban as they drove through Magnolia.

Officers met with the family at a gas station and contacted the driver of the Suburban a few blocks away.

The brothers told officers they had been teaching their 43-year-old mother to drive in the 2600 block of Thorndyke Avenue West when they saw a man out walking his dog.

The man approached their car, spoke with the brothers, left, then returned later with a gun.

The brothers told officers the man tapped the barrel of the gun on their car window, and the family drove away.

The family soon noticed the man following them in his Suburban, flashing his high beams and pulling behind and next to their vehicle.

That’s when the family called 911.

Officers contacted the man, William Portuese, where he admitted he had several firearms in his vehicle.

Police recovered three handguns and arrested the 62-year-old man for assault and harassment.

He was booked into King County Jail.
