Man critically injured in Seattle hatchet attack

SEATTLE — A man in his 30s is in critical condition after he was attacked by a man wielding a hatchet Wednesday night in downtown Seattle.

It happened at about 10:30 p.m. near Third Avenue and Pine Street.

According to witnesses, a blue sedan pulled up to the corner and two black men began arguing with a crowd of people standing in front of McDonald's.

One of the men was reportedly armed with a hatchet and a baseball bat. That man struck the victim and then both suspects fled in the sedan.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

KIRO 7 spoke to the victim's mother, who Identified him as David Groce. She says the father of four is recovering from a surgery and is scheduled for another Friday.

Police are still looking for the suspects.
