TUKWILA, Wash. — A man was detained after he allegedly brandished an ax while shoplifting at a store Thursday in Tukwila, police said.

Officers were called at 3:51 p.m to the 100 block of Andover Park East in the Southcenter area for a report of a shoplifting suspect who wielded an ax at loss-prevention officers and then ran away.

When police arrived, they found the man nearby the store, but he refused to stop, law enforcement said.

Police said he went around a corner and then reemerged and charged at officers.

An officer then used a taser on the man, detaining him, officials said.

The suspect was later identified by the loss-prevention officers as being the same person who had shown an ax while shoplifting, police said.
