Man dies after falling off cliff on Vashon Island

KING COUNTY, Wash. — A 70-year-old man died after falling off a cliff on Sunday on Vashon Island, the King County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

First responders were called at about 3:41 p.m. to the 22400 block of Melchert Way.

When rescuers arrived, they performed lifesaving measures on the man, but he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said based on their initial investigation, the fall appeared to be accidental.

The King County medical examiner was called and will determine the cause and manner of death.

The incident remains under investigation.
