TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma police are investigating after they say a suspect died after a gunfire exchange with Pierce County deputies Tuesday.
After 2 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a man with a shotgun in a parking lot in the 32600 block of Mountain Highway east near Eatonville.
The man then drove away from the scene.
Investigators said the man was supposed to meet with deputies over a child rape investigation.
Before 5 p.m., deputies found the man’s car on Mountainview Highway near 356th but he sped off.
Deputies chased the car and made several attempts to stop the man.
Investigators said the suspect crashed and several shots were fired.
The 37-year-old man was taken to Madigan Army Hospital where he later died.
No deputies were injured.
Tacoma police are investigating, and the involved deputies have been placed on administrative leave.
