TACOMA, Wash. — A man was found dead after a report of a shooting in a Tacoma parking lot Thursday morning.

At 5:37 a.m., Tacoma police officers were called to the parking lot of a business in the 8800 block of South Hosmer Street for reports of a man who had been shot.

Officers arrived to find a man who was unresponsive. They started CPR, but he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene by Tacoma Fire Department medics.

Tacoma police said the man was 35 years old.

Detectives and crime scene technicians are at the scene.

Police said the case is being investigated as a homicide.

This was the 22nd homicide in Tacoma this year so far, according to Tacoma Police Public Information Officer Wendy Haddow.

Tacoma averages about 18 homicides per year, according to the city of Tacoma.

“At this time last year, we were at 23 homicides, and we ended (2020) with 32 homicides,” Haddow said. “In 2019, we had 24 homicides (total).”

Haddow said there was no indication the homicides on Thursday and Wednesday were connected.

Anyone with information on either homicide is asked to call the Tacoma Police Department.
