Man killed in early morning Pioneer Square shooting

SEATTLE — Seattle police are investigating after a man was fatally shot early Saturday morning in the Pioneer Square neighborhood.

Police responded around 12:22 a.m. Saturday after 911 callers reported hearing gunshots near 1st Avenue and Cherry Street. Witnesses told officers that the suspect left the area after the shooting.

Officers found a man with a gunshot wound to his chest and began giving him aid.

Seattle fire medics brought the 23-year-old to Harborview Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate.
