Man killed in paragliding accident in Chelan County, authorities say

CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — NOTE: The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office had initially reported this as a parasailing accident. They later issued a correction saying it was a paragliding accident.

A 42-year-old Leavenworth man was killed in a paragliding accident Sunday in Chelan County, about 5 miles northeast of Leavenworth, the sheriff’s office reported.

At about 10:16 a.m., another paraglider called 911 to report there had been a paragliding accident about 1,000 feet above Eagle Creek Road near milepost 4, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Because the location was difficult to access, first responders from multiple agencies were called to assist.

Fellow paragliders reportedly performed lifesaving measures on the victim until medics arrived, but the man died from his injuries, authorities said.

The victim was taken out of the area by a Chelan County Sheriff’s Office helicopter. The victim’s identity has not been released.
