BURIEN, Wash. — Frightening moments for customers at a gas station in Burien after a fatal shooting late Sunday night.
“I heard a bang, but it sounded like a box fell,” said Elizabeth Martinez.
Martinez says she and several others were inside the 76 gas station off 1st Avenue South and Southwest 148th Street when a shooting happened just after 10 p.m.
“A guy came in rushing telling us to call 911 because a guy got shot in the stomach, and we instantly looked at him like he was crazy,” said Martinez.
Witnesses say police showed up immediately.
“I instantly got scared because I got my son with me and I’m pregnant, so (I) instantly went into to like safety, panic mode and just went behind the counter, just in case,” said Martinez.
When King County Sheriff deputies arrived they found a man with a gunshot wound.
“We noticed that they started doing CPR on the guy,” said Martinez.
First responders treated the victim, but he died at the scene.
“We could have got shot too, to be honest. We were right inside, and to be honest, it’s really scary because we work here most of the time, I spend most of my time here,” said Kaylin Lopez.
Detectives say the suspect ran away from the scene. K-9 teams searched the area but were not able to find him.
If you have any information regarding the shooting you are urged to call the King County Sheriff’s Office.
