A Georgia man has filed a lawsuit against Costco Wholesale Corporation and Midea America Corp., alleging he suffered severe burns due to defects in a pressure cooker sold by the companies.
According to the complaint, Gabriel Jusi was injured on December 22, 2022, when his Instant Pot Duo Gourmet 60 pressure cooker malfunctioned.
The lawsuit claims the lid could be opened while pressure was still present, causing the contents to explode and resulting in significant burns.
The pressure cooker was purchased online from Costco.
The lawsuit alleges that both Costco and Midea, the manufacturer, marketed the product as safe despite knowing of the risks.
The complaint states that the device’s advertised safety features, which are supposed to prevent the lid from being opened under pressure, failed during regular use.
Jusi is seeking compensation for his injuries, medical expenses, pain, and diminished quality of life.
The complaint also accuses the companies of negligence and breach of warranty under the Washington Product Liability Act.
