NORTH BEND, Wash. — A 33-year-old man was shot and killed by a police officer in a public park in North Bend.
The King County Medical Examiner identified the man as Cody Rebischke.
It happened at 11 p.m. Tuesday at Torguson Park near East North Bend Way. The park closes at 9 p.m.
Bellevue police said Snoqualmie/North Bend police officer James Aguirre approached a group of people in the park. There was an altercation of some sort, and Rebischke went for Aguirre’s weapon.
Officer Aguirre shot Rebischke, who died.
Aguirre was not hurt.
Authorities say they have interviewed witnesses, but are hearing conflicting stories.
“We’ve heard different stories, of a group being out here, to just the individual being out here, so I’m not sure,” said Major Debbie Christopherson of the Bellevue Police.
Bellevue PD is one of 13 other local agencies that make up the newly-founded, King County Independent Force Investigative team. This is the first time the team, which investigates police use of deadly force incidents, has ever been deployed.
