Week four of the Manuel Ellis murder trial is now underway. But prosecutors say the trial is running behind schedule.
Christopher Burbank, Matthew Collins, and Timothy Rankine are all charged in Ellis’s death due to a violent arrest in 2020.
The state says the testimony is going slow -- last week they only got through five witnesses in four days. And there are dozens of potential witnesses who could be called to testify.
And now it could be the third week of November before they wrap their case. After that, the defense will present its own case, which could take the trial into December.
We’ve been following along each day of the trial.
- On October 18 - A former pizza delivery driver took the stand.
- On October 17 - A prosecution expert in forensic audio and a pathologist testified.
- On October 12 - Sara McDowell, who took one of the cellphone videos showing the restraint testified.
- On October 3 - Opening statements were heard.
