Maple Valley hit-and-run that severely injured man remains unsolved a year later

The case of a man who was nearly killed in a hit-and-run in Maple Valley remains unsolved after nearly a year.

The family of the victim says the driver should come forward.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, Billy Osborne was hit by a driver at Southeast 237th Street and Maple Valley Black Diamond Road Southeast.

Osborne was in a coma but woke up about three months later.

His guardian, Roxanne Leavell, said that since then, her cousin has not left Harborview Medical Center.

“They just destroyed a young man that has a long life ahead of him. He has a long road to recovery,” said Leavell.

Leavell said Osborne can’t stand or walk.

“I have to have hope and faith in God, that God will intervene and strengthen him — get the best help that he can back to someplace where he was before all this happened,” she said.

A year ago, the King County Sheriff’s Office released photos of the crash scene and said deputies were looking for the person who hit Osborne and left him in the road.

No one has come forward.

“I just wish the community of Maple Valley — I just wish somebody would come forward and have a conscience. Be humane! Take accountability for the wrong that they’ve done,” said Leavell.

Since then, another hit-and-run case in Maple Valley grabbed headlines.

In that case, a 15-year-old girl was charged with hitting and killing a jogger named Greg Moore on July 18, 2021.

An arrest was made less than two months after the crime.

Now that Osborne’s case has gone cold, his family wonders if it will ever be solved.

“There’s still somebody out there, that hit and ran over Billy and left him for dead,” said Leavell.
