MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. — A 45-year-old former Maple Valley man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for producing and possessing child pornography.
U.S. Attorney Annette L. Hayes says Stephen Schmidt pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in April, admitting that he raped and molested two young children.
Hayes says Schmidt took photos of the molestation and kept them on his electronic devices.
She says Schmidt also molested a 13-year-old child and a young child in Lewis County, Washington.
Hayes says the mother of two molested children called police in May 2017. Hayes says soon after Schmidt contacted police and disclosed a history of sexually abusing children.
Hayes says Schmidt also will plead guilty to child molestation charges in King and Lewis counties and be sentenced in state court to 26 years to life in prison, to run concurrent to the federal sentence.
