An investigation from the Marysville Police Department determined it was an accidental death resulting from the premature explosion of a mortar-style firework.
Paramedics found the man unresponsive at the scene and said he had “significant” upper-body injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive, officials said.
According to officials, witnesses said another 20-year-old man also suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening in the incident.

Bystanders drove the 20-year-old to a nearby hospital before police and fire officials arrived at the scene.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends. Consumer fireworks remain illegal within Marysville city limits and have been since 2017,” officials said in a news release.
