SEATTLE — Seattle Mayor, Bruce Harrell is promising $2 million in federal dollars for a new storefront repair fund. Small businesses can apply and receive up to $2,000. The grant money can be used to fix broken doors, replace shattered glass or remove graffiti.
Mayor Harrell says economic development and beautification go hand-in-hand.
Seattle City Councilmember Sara Nelson says a broken exterior glass door can cost a couple of thousand dollars to replace.
“We know that when a business window is shattered or when its door is broken, it can put a business in financial distress,” said Nelson.
Rolling applications will open Oct. 18. The loans will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Businesses making less than $7 million annually and employ fewer than 50 people are encouraged to apply.
