Mercer Island police are seeking the public’s help in identifying two suspects involved in a hate crime at Islander Middle School, according to a statement released by the department.
On January 1, two individuals trespassed onto the school campus and defaced the exterior of the building with antisemitic and racist symbols and phrases.
Authorities are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
Police released descriptions of both suspects.
The first individual was wearing camouflaged pants, and a black balaclava covering his nose and mouth, and a “Paradise Varsity Bomber Jacket,” manufactured by PacSun.
The second suspect was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored sweatpants. He also had either a red face mask or bandana covering his nose and mouth.
Surveillance photos of both suspects were also taken without face coverings.
The Mercer Island Police Department encourages anyone with information about the suspects to contact them. Tips can be emailed to mipdtips@mercerisland.gov, or by calling 206-275-7955. All tips will be kept anonymous, according to the department.
