KING COUNTY, Wash. — As hot weather persists to start off the week, the King County Regional Homelessness Authority’s severe weather protocol is in place until the end of Monday.

Multiple day centers in Seattle and across King County will operate as cooling centers.

King County Metro will continue offering free rides to anyone needing a ride to a cooling center.

“Metro is not waiving fares during the heat wave,” King County Metro stated. “However, we never make fares a barrier to people in safety situations.”

Since many people will look to the water to keep cool, authorities are reminding people that bodies of water across the Puget Sound region are still cold enough to cause cramps and shock.

Pet safety is also an ongoing concern, as high temperatures persist on Monday.

“Anything over 70 degrees, we shouldn’t be bringing out animals with (us in the car). We want to keep our friends like Archie here safe from heat exhaustion,” Auburn Police Officer Ray Peckham said in Facebook video.
