‘Minor security breach’ backs up Sea-Tac security lines into parking garage amid holiday travel rush

SEATAC, Wash. — A minor security breach at Sea-Tac Airport Thursday morning has backed up security lines into the parking garage.

It’s not the first time the airport has seen long lines stretching into the garage this year.

The breach occurred when a passenger went through an employee checkpoint without the proper identification, according to Port of Seattle spokesperson Perry Cooper. When a breach happens, airport security protocol requires that all checkpoints be closed.

Though the checkpoints were only closed for about 20 minutes, it resulted in long wait times in security lines.

Shortly before 7 a.m., wait times were at least 75 minutes.

To further complicate things for travelers arriving at Sea-Tac, an Alaska Airlines conveyor belt that carries luggage into the airport broke and the bags have to be carried off the airplane and into the airport.
