CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — A Cashmere man was found dead in Chelan County last weekend, months after first going missing.
Christopher A. Steiner, a 57-year-old resident of Cashmere, was found dead on Saturday, Sept. 12, in the Tibbetts Mountain area, according to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.
Steiner was reported missing on Aug. 30, 2026, launching a search effort by sheriff’s deputies, partner agencies and community volunteers.
The sheriff’s office says two individuals traveling through the Tibbetts Mountain area spotted the body in brush near a roadway on Saturday and notified law enforcement. Chelan County sheriff’s deputies responded and found a man matching Steiner’s description.
Chelan County Coroner Earl Crowe positively identified the deceased as Steiner. Law enforcement officials have not made a final determination regarding the cause or circumstances of death, and the investigation remains open, but authorities say foul play is not currently suspected in his death.
The sheriff’s office thanked community members and responding agencies who assisted during the search efforts, noting that locating Steiner provides a measure of closure for his family.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said it will provide additional information as the investigation continues and further details become available.
