Montlake Bridge closed to weekend traffic

SEATTLE — Update: SR 99 opened early in both directions around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Seattle drivers should prepare for some potential gridlock this weekend with two major roadways closed to traffic.

SR 99 is closing for weekend maintenance from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Sunday. Crews are performing warranty work left from tunnel construction, WSDOT said.

The Montlake Bridge is also closing for crews to install sewer, communications and gas lines as well as continued work to upgrade the bridge. Work begins 10 p.m. Friday and continues until 5 a.m. Monday.

All roadway traffic except for emergency vehicles will be prohibited from crossing the bridge. Pedestrian and bike routes will remain open.

The SR 520 ramps to and from Montlake Boulevard and Lake Washington Boulevard will also be closed.
