More rain and wind moving through the metro

SEATTLE — Another system is moving through Western Washington, bringing heavy wind and rain —and causing dangerous conditions for some areas.

Many people are dealing with power outages, while others are seeing a little rain. At Alki Beach, people tell us the gloomy weather doesn’t bother them. In fact, a lot of people specifically go there in bad weather to get a glimpse of crashing waves.

Steve Lorentzen tells us Alki Beach is known for putting on a good show when the weather gets bad.

“It’s neat when the waves and wind come in, the tide is high, and at the same time by the bulkhead and waves are crashing up over the top,” Lorentzen said.

While the waves are smaller today, he said he’s seen the water crash over the Alki Beach walking path.

“Sometimes we have to walk up on the sidewalk and sometimes we have to walk to the other side of the street,” he added.

We found Steve on his morning walk, and he said no matter rain or shine, he walks six days a week.

“Gotta get a little exercise, get fresh air, get the old bones moving and working,” Lorentzen said.

He says he loves to see a storm in the forecast.

“Typical Seattle, this time of the year we get a bit of rain, some high tides, some wind, you name it,” Lorentzen said. “It comes and goes, it’s part of the deal living in Seattle which I love as a matter of fact.”

Of course, no matter how you feel about the storms, it’s good to be prepared. Have generators and flashlights ready to go just in case.
