“The 14-year-old daughter that was there tried to call 911 to get some help,” said Cmdr. David Leibman, of the Renton Police Department. “The mother found out she was calling 911 and shot her,” Leibman said.
According to the police report, the 911 operator could hear a woman saying, “You called 911” and then heard something about “blow your head off” followed “by what sounded like zip-ties being secured” and then a loud sound, followed by screaming, according to the report.
Laurel was originally booked on suspicion of second-degree murder. During her bail hearing Wednesday afternoon, which she did not attend, Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John Castleton asked that the potential charge against her be escalated to premeditated homicide.
“The state requests the court find probable cause for murder in the first degree, attempted murder in the first degree and three counts of unlawful imprisonment,” Castleton said.
A judge pro tem ordered Laurel held without bail.
She’s scheduled to have another court appearance later in the week.
