Mother and baby narrowly avoid tragedy in West Seattle apartment shooting

A West Seattle family is grateful to be alive after someone shot multiple bullets into their home.

It happened at the Salish Landing apartments on Thursday morning.

Neighbors describe waking up to the rapid-fire.

“It was like a whole bunch of firecrackers going off at five in the morning,” says one neighbor.

At least five bullets were shot into Emilie Delarosa’s apartment. She and her young daughter were out of town at the time.

“I received a phone call from my neighbor,” says Delarosa.  “She was very panicked. She was very worried and concerned. She said, ‘Emilie. It’s an emergency. You need to call me.’ "

Delarosa believes that being out of town likely saved their lives. She’s hesitant to return home.

“I haven’t even been able to sleep, just thinking about returning and putting my daughter down for even a nap. I can’t even think about it,” says Delarosa.

Bullet holes can be seen outside of Delarosa’s bedroom, living room, and her daughter’s nursery.

Delarosa called the apartment home for two years, but now she’s eager to move. She created a GoFundMe page, to support her family’s move to a new neighborhood.

Her neighbors understand her urgency to leave.

“Especially for a single mother with a little baby,” says one neighbor. “Her baby’s only nine months old and now she’s got to pack up and move. That’s not even fair. Like I said, a home should be your safe space. No one should have to go through this. Nobody.”

Seattle Police are investigating.
