Mother launches effort to track down son’s killer

SEATTLE — The mother of a 31-year-old man who was gunned down at Seattle’s Cal Anderson Park last week is launching her own effort to track down his killer.

Mercer Roy, a father, son, cherished friend and daily basketball player had gotten into an argument with another player on the court around midnight on Aug. 13. In the video above, he is seen on the basketball court wearing a bucket hat with a beard.

Roy’s mother, Karin Roy, said her son was killed in a particularly brutal fashion and in front of many witnesses.

She said so far none of them have come forward with information about his death.

“The third person pulled out a semi-automatic rifle and shot my son in the thigh, which knocked him to the ground. And when several of his friends who were there, who tried to approach to help him get up, the rifle was turned on them, and they were asked who was coming next. At which point Mercer managed to get up and started to run, and he was shot twice in the back, which is what killed him,” said Karin Roy.

Karin Roy is collecting information and video and is asking anyone that knows anything to send that to info4mercer@gmail.com. She said she will give the anonymous information to detectives.

Karin Roy has put up flyers at Cal Anderson Park.
