A mother is recovering after a bicyclist slammed into her while she was walking with her newborn on the Burke-Gilman Trail.

The trail stretches from Ballard to Bothell.

She spoke with Ali and Aaron Cork after the crash on Monday.

They said their newborn was strapped in her stroller and wasn't hurt, but the baby’s mother, Ali, sprained her back and knee.

"I asked him, ‘How did you hit us? We were on the side of the path. And he just said I wasn't looking,” said Aaron Cork.

The speed limit for bicyclists on the trail is 15 mph.

Bicyclists who are caught speeding could receive a $52 fine. KIRO 7 clocked a few cyclists at 22 mph.

The King County Sheriff’s Office oversees the trail in Woodinville and plans to increase patrols this summer to make sure bicyclists are following rules.

But that might not be the same for other parts of the trail because it runs between several cities, and authorities in each one decide whether to enforce the speed limit.

Another reminder from the Sheriff’s Office is for pedestrians.  It says they also need to pay attention, keep headphones at a level where they can hear audible cues from bikers, and to stay off their phones.
