SUMMIT, Wash. — High speed, a wet road, alcohol and riding without lights turned out to be a fatal combination for a motorcycle rider in the Summit area late Friday.
The rider, a 43-year-old man, was headed southbound on Canyon Road East at 11 p.m. when he crashed into a car turning into a driveway, said Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Darren Moss.
“Well over the posted speed limit with no lights on,” Moss said. “If he had his headlights on, he probably wouldn’t have got hit.”
The driver of the car was unhurt, but the motorcycle was totaled. The rider was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Moss said.
Accident investigators found a smashed liquor bottle amid the debris of the motorcycle.
