Multiple collisions caused serious injuries, at least one death, and closed down eastbound I-90 near mileposts 79 and 94. All lanes of traffic are blocked.
One of the collisions is near Cle Elum and resulted in serious injury, Trooper Brian Moore said, adding that another collision nearby also resulted in serious injury.
A car rolled over near milepost 94. Moore said the driver lost control while driving too fast. An 11-year-old boy, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected, police said.
Eastbound I-90 Snoqualmie Pass closed in the North Bend to Elk Heights vicinity at around 3:20 p.m. Traffic officials said they hoped to reopen the roadway by 8 p.m.
Saturday night officials with the Kittitas County Fire District No. 7 said one person was killed in one of the collisions and five others were taken to local hospitals.
