RENTON, Wash. — A multi-vehicle collision shut down parts of Maple Valley Highway and 140th Avenue Southeast in Renton Thursday night.
According to Renton firefighters, the collision involved a dump truck, a King County Metro bus, and several other vehicles.
Multiple people suffered injuries that ranged from serious to critical, according to first responders.
Authorities said six people were taken to hospitals in the area, but only the driver of the dump truck had serious injuries.
Renton police said the dump truck was traveling south on 140th Avenue toward Maple Valley Highway when it struck two vehicles, then the bus, which hit some other vehicles.
The driver of the dump truck reportedly lost control while coming down 140th Avenue, which is on a hill. An initial investigation pointed to a mechanical failure, KIRO 7 found out.
According to police, the dump truck driver was found in the middle of the road, unconscious but breathing.
Investigators believe he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The highway was completely shut down, from eastbound Interstate 405 to westbound 149th Avenue. The highway reopened close to 10:30 p.m.
The crash is under investigation.
