SEATTLE — Northwest Harvest is opening a new food bank the organization says is focused on dignity for everyone who walks through its doors.

The nonprofit says the SODO Community Market offers an “inviting grocery store experience” that’s centered on destigmatizing the use of a food bank.

The market is in Seattle's SODO neighborhood at 1915 Fourth Avenue South near the corner of South Holgate Street.

The hours, which are subject to change, are as follows:

  • Monday 1:30 p.m - 7:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday CLOSED
  • Wednesday 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Thursday CLOSED
  • Friday 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are full service days when people can choose from a wide variety of food items. Families will also be able to access child friendly items and food any day the food bank is open.

Northwest harvest says the new community market could help feed 5,000 people every week.

The market will replace the Cherry Street Food Bank, which Northwest harvest operated for more than 35 years.

Those who wish to make a monetary donation to the market can do so by purchasing a personalized brick that will go in the courtyard outside the market.
