FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A man suspected of gunning down a newspaper deliveryman was booked behind bars at the King County Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent on Wednesday, ending four days of fear in Federal Way.

According to police, Travis Zimmerman was shot around 3 a.m. Saturday near the 31600 block of 37th Avenue SW.

The father of two was transported from the scene to Harborview Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Police said Zimmerman was able to provide a description of a suspect vehicle and a summary of what led up to the shooting.

Zimmerman said as he was delivering papers, he noticed a small white pickup truck was following him.

After the truck continued to follow him, police said Zimmerman decided to confront the driver.

The driver then fired multiple rounds from a handgun, striking Zimmerman multiple times, police said.

“Immediately following up on the suspect vehicle description, officers identified a possible suspect, and by utilizing our Safe City cameras, our records personnel were able to locate a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in the area at the time of the incident,” Federal Way police wrote in a news release.

Detectives said they were able to identify the suspect vehicle from surveillance video in the neighborhood.

SWAT and Special Investigation Unit detectives conducted hours of surveillance at the suspect’s Federal Way residence until around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Late Tuesday night, a 30-year old Federal Way man was arrested by detectives who had been watching his home.

KIRO 7 is not revealing the suspect’s identity because he has not been charged but sources confirm the suspect was arrested at his home, less than four miles from the shooting scene.
