SEATTLE — Seattle Public Utilities announced residential garbage, recycling and food and waste pick-up would resume in Seattle on Monday, Jan 3, but determined there are still icy, unsafe road conditions in neighborhoods, resulting in continued delays for some customers.
Collection services were interrupted for the week of Dec. 27 due to potential risks to public safety as a result of inclement weather.
Customers should set out their garbage, recycling, and compost on their regular collection day and leave it out the following day if not collected. Friday customers, if missed, should keep their carts out on Saturday.
Customers skipped last week may set out double their normal amount of garbage, recycling and compost on their usual collection day at no additional charge. Recycling pick-up will be attempted for all customers even if it’s not their usual week for collection, but SPU says it may not be possible for their contractors to collect off-week recycling for all customers.
Transfer stations and the Household Hazardous Waste Facility are open with normal hours.
Solid Waste Collections are back to normal this week. Customers missed last week may set out 2x their normal amount of garbage, recycling, & compost on their collection day (no additional charge). *Recycling collection is included, even if it’s not your typical week. pic.twitter.com/aztnbELERh

As we try to safely collect solid waste across #Seattle, some roads remain too icy & unsafe, leading to further (sigh) delays for some customers this week. See our blog for details: https://t.co/7HkR8y9E5J. #SeattleWinter pic.twitter.com/jseYLgcWW1
